Bishop City Ordinance of Golf Carts and UTV

BISHOP (News Release) - The Bishop City Council recently passed a city ordinance related to the use and operation of Golf Carts and Utility Vehicles (UTV) on public roadways within the city limits of Bishop, Texas.

The city ordinance allows Golf Carts / UTVs with proper state registration and license plates to be operated on city streets with speed limits of 35 MPH or less, during daytime hours only.

Requirements for lawful operation of a Golf Cart / UTV within Bishop city limits include, but are not limited to the following:

-Must display a valid license plate issued by the state of Texas

-Driver must have a valid driver’s license.

-The Golf Cart / UTV must be equipped with headlights, taillights, mirrors, reflectors, seatbelts and a slow moving vehicle triangle.

-Seatbelts are required for the driver and all passengers.

-Golf Cart / UTV must have liability insurance.

-Golf Cart / UTV may not be operated on a Highway and may only cross a highway at an intersection controlled by a traffic light.

*Golf Cart / UTV drivers are required to follow all traffic laws related to driving, stopping, standing and parking, in the same manner as a regular motor vehicle.

This ordinance DOES NOT apply to ATV / Dirt bikes, Mini bikes, or other off road vehicles which do not have four (4) wheels and side by side seating. It remains unlawful to operate an ATV / Dirt bike / Mini bike or other off road vehicles on a public roadway within the city limits of Bishop, Texas.

Violation of any section(s) of this city ordinance may result in a fine not to exceed $500.00 per offense.
