Controlled Burn Impacting Air Quality

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – There is an 8,000-acre controlled burn in Refugio County that is having an impact on the air quality in parts of Corpus Christi. The Corpus Christi Fire Hazmat Team has taken air quality samples and is reporting that the current air condition is within acceptable limits.
Winds carrying smoke from the controlled will continue until around 5 p.m., when weather reports indicate there will be a shift in wind direction.
Until then, citizens may experience burning eyes, a runny nose, cough, and difficulty breathing depending on the intensity of the fire. Residents unusually sensitive to particle pollution should consider reducing their activity level and shorten the amount of time they are active outdoors.
The City will continue to monitor the air quality as conditions warrant.
