CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – The Corpus Christi City Council approved the second and final reading of an ordinance approving the redistricting of the City’s single-member City Council Districts. The ordinance establishes new District boundary lines for City Council elections, based on the 2020 Census Data. District 5 territory diminished due to the increasing population growth over the past 10 years; District 2 gained areas along the southern part of Ocean Drive, and District 1 continues to represent Calallen, Tuloso-Midway, North Beach, and Downtown.

A map showing the new Council Districts will be available within 48 hours at https://www.cctexas.com/redistricting.

Redistricting is the process of drawing the lines of districts from which council members are elected. It ensures that each district has roughly an equal number of people. It is required by law, and it takes place every 10 years after the Census. Redistricting is important because it impacts how neighborhoods and communities will be represented on City Council. The Corpus Christi City Council currently has five single-member districts, three at-large members, and one mayor elected at-large.

Five Community Specific Input sessions, one in each City Council District, and two General sessions, conducted at City Hall, were held prior to the passing of the Redistricting Ordinance.
