Corpus Christi Approves a 10-Million Gallon Water Storage Facility

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – Corpus Christi City Council approved the construction of a new 10-million-gallon storage unit for treated water at the O.N. Stevens Water Treatment Plant (ONSWTP). The storage unit will replace the current 69-year-old structure and upgrade capacity from four to ten million gallons. The project also includes water treatment enhancement and stormwater improvements.

Funding for the project is from the Water Capital Improvement Fund in FY2023 and FY2024. The improvement project is slated to be completed by December 2025.

The ONSWTP was constructed in 1954 and supplies water for a seven-county area and is the sole potable water treatment plant for the City of Corpus Christi.

“Your City Council and I are committed to infrastructure projects that improve the functionality of our water treatment facilities,” Mayor Guajardo said. “Our ratepayers demand that we protect our water supply and this is another way for us to do just that.”
