City of Corpus Christi Introduces New Public Health Director

Corpus Christ (News Release) – Corpus Christi Mayor, Paulette Guajardo, and Corpus Christi City Manager, Peter Zanoni, were on hand at the City-County Health Center to introduce the new Nueces County Public Health District Director, Dr. Fauzia Khan.

Zanoni mentioned that the search took seven long months but when he met with Dr. Fauzia to take her on a tour of the area she said, “Please Peter don’t take me to the usual tourist spots, take me to the most disadvantaged and underprivileged areas in our community because that’s where we’ll find our first priority clients.” He said, “That is what sold me, Dr. Khan.” Dr. Khan thanked the mayor, city manager, city council and the county commissioners court, community partners and the media for the warm welcome.

Dr Khan mentioned as the former Immunization Service Director for the Oklahoma State Department of Health that she started with a 4.8-million-dollar budget and 20 employees in 2019 to lead a department three years later that had a 100-million-dollar immunization budget and 70 employees. “It was a successful journey and I’m happy to bring that learning experience to lead the Public Health District here in Corpus Christi.”

The City of Corpus Christi took over operations of the Corpus Christi - Nueces County Public Health District in March. In addition to city residents, the Health District will continue to serve county residents through a contract with Nueces County using mobile bus clinics and satellite operations.
