Endangered Spider Monkeys Found at Javier Vega Jr. Checkpoint

SARITA, TEXAS (News Release) - Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol agents assigned to the Javier Vega, Jr. on Highway 77 near Kingsville discovered 5 monkeys hidden inside the vehicle at the checkpoint.

The monkeys were discovered hidden inside a vehicle trying to pass through the checkpoint on Highway 77.

The spider monkeys are now in the care of U.S. Fish and Wildlife.

As an endangered species, spider monkeys can sell for up to $8,000 each on the black market.
