KINGSVILLE - Friends and family members posted on social media to confirm the identity of the Kingsville police officer that was shot in yesterday’s domestic dispute as Officer Sherman Benys.

On Monday, November 1, Benys responded to a domestic dispute that took place on North Wanda Drive. At approximately 5:09 pm Benys was shot at a close range by Alfredo Deleon, 40.

Kingsville police chased the suspect to the intersection of South 11th Street and Miller Avenue where officers apprehended their suspect. The Department of Public Safety is also investigating a crash that may be related to this incident.

Benys is currently in stable condition at a hospital in Corpus Christi.
