KINGSVILLE (News Release) – Naval Air Station Kingsville will participate in an annual force protection exercise, Feb 6 - 17.

Exercise Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain 2023 is conducted annually by Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command and Commander, Navy Installations Command on all Navy installations in the continental U.S.

“These exercises are designed to ensure air station personnel are at peak readiness to deter and respond to potential security threats.” NAS Kingsville Commanding Officer Capt. Eric Bromley said.

Citadel Shield is the field training exercise portion that occurs the first week. Solid Curtain occurs the following week and is the command post exercise the following week. This two-part approach was is designed to enhance the readiness of Navy security forces and ensure seamless interoperability among the commands, other services, and agency partners to protect life, equipment and facilities.

Exercise CS-SC23 is a regularly scheduled exercise and is not in response to any specific threat.

Measures have been taken to minimize disruptions outside the air station and to normal base operations, but the exercise may cause an increased traffic or delays in accessing the installation. Area residents may also see or hear security activities associated with the training exercise.

NAS Kingsville is one of two naval air stations designated for undergraduate Jet/Strike pilot training. The air station consists of more than 4,000 acres of land, including four 8,000 foot runaways, and encompasses more than 36,000 cubic miles of airspace, including five Military Operating Areas (MOAs) and one Warning Area.  Follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/nas.kingsville.9/.
