CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) - The Corpus Christi City Manager Peter Zanoni gave an update on the North Beach drainage issues. Currently, there are three possible solutions under review. A final report with probable cost estimates should go before the City Council on June 8, 2021. Zanoni also said the Texas Department of Transportation will soon begin a drainage project to alleviate standing water under the Highway 181 Harbor Bridge turnaround.
The Council also learned about a $25 million waterfront community under construction on the northwest end of North Beach. Lighthouse Pointe features 159 luxury apartments, a marina, and a 135-foot stone lighthouse that will be the tallest in Texas.
“This lighthouse will be a landmark for entering Corpus Christi,” Zanoni told the City Council.
The City will construct a new restroom facility, playground, and a new parking lot on North Beach. The $2.5 million project is funded by the 2020 Bond Program.
“I am looking forward to the continued revitalization that is happening in this great part of our city,” Zanoni said.
The Council also learned about a new facility coming to the Texas State Aquarium. Tom Schmid, President, and CEO, said plans for a $15 million Center For Wildlife Rescue will include state-of-the-art medical equipment and training for veterinarian students. Construction is forecasted to begin later this year.
