Officers Educate Public on Common Scams

Corpus Christi Police Department

CALALLEN, TEXAS - (News Release) Lieutenant Maldonado and Senior Officer Garanzuay, from the Financial Crimes Unit, visited residents at the Riverview at Callalen Apartment Homes tonight to educate on common scams the citizens are facing on a daily basis.

With the holiday season upon us, it is important to understand the types of scams affecting our citizens, especially our elderly. These scams include the pigeon drop, romance, arrest warrant, lawsuit, IRS, warranty scam, gift card scam, just to name a few.

Remember: if it sounds too good to be true, it is. Do not ever give out your personal information or financial information to unsolicited callers. And no legitimate government agency nor business will ask you to pay with gift cards, bitcoin, crypto currency or through third party apps (cash app, venmo, Zelle).

If you are interested in our officers conducting a presentation on common scams, identity theft, etc., please contact 361-886-2765.
