KPD Responds to Threats Against H.M. King and Gillett

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS (News Release) - The Kingsville Police Department took action on Wednesday following reports of threats made against H.M. King High School and Gillett Intermediate School.
A 14- year-old juvenile was detained after making verbal and text based threats to commit a school shooting. The juvenile is currently in custody, and the case remains under investigation.
Upon receiving the initial report, Kingsville Police officers immediately coordinated with school officials and responded to a residence on the south side of Kingsville. The juvenile was detained, and while a search revealed no fireanns, the juvenile was charged with False Alarm or Report, a State Jail Felony.
The individual was subsequently transported to the San Patricio Juvenile Center in Sinton. Thanks to quick collaboration between law enforcement and the community, a potentially tragic incident was averted.
Chief John Blair emphasized the importance of proactive community engagement in preventing such threats. "A person with knowledge of these threats came forward, allowing us to intervene before any harm was done," Blair said."This demonstrates the critical role that community members play in keeping our schools and neighborhoods safe."
Chief Blair also reiterated the department's ongoing commitment to protecting the residents of Kingsville and ensuring public safety. "Our officers are here to provide the best and safest service possible. We want our residents to know that we are always looking out for the well-being of the community and that we are ready to respond to any situation that threatens our safety. We encourage everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately," said Blair.
