Oscar Mendoza Jr., Nueces County Constable Precinct 5

BANQUETE, TEXAS - (News Release) On Nov. 19th, S.R.O Deputy Barrera, K9 Thor and his handler Deputy Salazar, conducted a sweep at the Banquete High School looking for vape pens or any other types of substances which shouldn’t be at school.

With the high increase in vape pen usage among junior high and high school teens around the county, deputies feel it is necessary to try and curve the trend by holding these students accountable for their choices.

Possession of a vape pen containing THC is a state jail felony, punishable by a fine or possible time in the juvenile detention center.

Parents, please talk to your students about the dangers and consequences of choosing to vape and the use THC while on school property.

Any student found with a vape pen can be charged and taken into custody by the deputies on site.
